When it comes to teaching film it is common to hear students say "Oh no, not that boring camera angle crap", "Can't we just watch the movie?".
And they have a point.
Too often the teaching of film is seemingly done in a way that does not generate an interest in the mechanics of film but rather resentment.
What I have found to be the best way around this is to set the students a task of making a film that uses a selection of techniques that you identify. Many students or schools may not have the equipment for film making for a whole class so an effective, and even better way of teaching film, is to get them to make stop motion films. These films require careful planning if they are going to work well.
I'll try and attach some of the films that students in my classes have made over the last few years.
